The 48th annual AFI Festival of Film will this year
feature South Australian feature films Ten Canoes and
2:37, along with The Caterpillar Wish, shot in
Robe. The Festival showcases the nominees for this year’s
AFI Awards and also includes South Australian short film The
9:13, and the local short animated films Carnivore Reflux
and Gargoyle. The recently released feature film Kenny,
which had its sound postproduction completed in Adelaide,
will also screen as part of the festival.

Jim Barry’s 2003 McRae Wood Shiraz has collected three
trophies, including best international Shiraz and best
Australian red wine, at the prestigious 2006 International
Wine Challenge, held in London. The annual challenge, in
London, attracts 9000 wine entries from 35 different
countries.
Shingleback Wines’ John Davey has won this year’s Jimmy
Watson Memorial Trophy. The McLaren Vale winemaker took home
the award for his Shingleback 2005 D Block Reserve Cabernet
Sauvignon. The Jimmy Watson trophy is awarded annually to
the producer of the best one-year-old dry red wine at the
Royal Melbourne Wine Show.

One of the world’s top culinary masters, Cheong Liew, will be the
ambassador of the 2006 Fiesta! food and wine festival.
Cheong is the first ever ambassador for this gourmet event,
to be held in South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula region
over five weekends from 29 September - 29 October. The full

The 2006 Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts has once again affirmed
itself as Australia’s pre-eminent arts festival, winning
three categories at the Helpmann Awards in Sydney last
month. The 2006 Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts won in the
Best Opera category for its season of Flight, and in the
Best New Australian Work and Best Lighting Design categories
for its performances of Devolution.

One of the Art Gallery of South Australia's most generous
benefactors, Max Carter AO, has celebrated the Gallery's
125th anniversary by donating thirty works of early
Australian art, valued collectively at $2.3 million. The
donation, which is the most significant single gift of
Australian art in the Gallery's history, includes works by
S.T. Gill, Benjamin Duterreau, Conrad Martens, Frederick
McCubbin and Tom Roberts.

The Magic Millions racing carnival will be returning to its
February time slot next year, with its major mid-week race
day becoming a twilight event. The Magic Millions will now
be held 19-22 February 2007, while the Adelaide Cup will be
held on 12 March 2007.

The Adelaide Showground Farmers Market will start trading on 1
October 2006. The new market will open every Sunday,
offering members of the public the chance to buy straight
from the grower. Produce on offer will include seafood from
Kangaroo Island and Port Lincoln, apples from the
Coonawarra, vegetables from Virginia and the Fleurieu
Peninsula, plus Riverland oranges and grapes.

The 2007 Clipsal 500 Adelaide V8 Supercar event will be held from
1-4 March, and tickets for the event are now on sale. The
Clipsal 500 Adelaide is Australia's largest domestic motor
sport event, attracting a crowd of more than 270,000 in
2006. Renowned international motor sport commentator Murray
Walker describes it as the best touring car festival in the
world.

South Australia’s largest confectioner, Robern Menz, has
been awarded a Federal Government grant to fund the
early-stage development of a new range of healthy fruit
snacks. The proposed new range will consist of an assortment
of nutritional shaped fruit snacks and will further expand
the company’s already diverse range of fruit-based products.
