For the first time in 82 years, SA’s Banrock Station’s internationally renowned wetland will dry out the way nature intended – just like it did for thousands of years before man-made weirs and locks were installed nearby on the Murray River. The wetland will be completely dry by mid-March this year, and then begin to refill naturally in September. The process will be repeated every two years. Importantly, the initiative will save crucial Murray River water, as well as improve the long-term health of the award-winning wetland. The initiative will allow Banrock Station’s visitors to experience a true natural wetland cycle.
