Tourism Awards Nominations Open

Tourism operators across the State are being urged to nominate for the 2007 South Australian Tourism Awards, with the launch of a simpler and streamlined entry process.

The prestigious Awards, launched on 30 April by Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith, attract hundreds of entries each year. The new process is expected to entice even more operators to enter.

“This year’s Tourism Awards have been simplified with refined categories, a reduced number of questions and shorter submissions,” Minister Lomax-Smith says.

“It is encouraging to see that a national review of the Australian Tourism Awards has improved the process and resulted in some positive outcomes for the industry.

“Another change is the move towards an online submission process which will simplify the process even more in the future.

“The submission process is expected to go online in 2008 and, as a result, two award categories – Major Tourist Attractions and Tourism Education & Training – will be trialled online this year.”

Minister Lomax-Smith also unveiled a new South Australian Tourism Awards logo at the launch, reflecting the theme of our State brand, South Australia. A brilliant blend.

The South Australian Tourism Awards are designed to celebrate and reward innovation and excellence in the State’s tourism industry.

“I encourage all tourism operators to consider entering the 2007 South Australian Tourism Awards to reward themselves and their hard work.

“The process will give them the chance to review their own goals, professionalism and achievements while showcasing their success to visitors and the industry.”

In total, there are 27 categories this year including tour and transport operators, wineries, restaurants, events, tourism marketing, luxury hotels, backpacker accommodation and more.

“Due to the overwhelming success of our gold, silver and bronze medal format which was introduced last year, this format will also continue in 2007,” Minister Lomax-Smith says.

Nominations close on 2 July and submissions are due by 13 August. The Awards Presentation and Gala Dinner will be held on Saturday 3 November at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
