Angela Heuzenroeder's new book, “Barossa Gardens - A History”, is a
delightful, illustrated look at the region’s gardens through
time. From the first recorded garden of Johannes Menge at
Jacob's Creek, the book shows how ideas about plantings and
garden design changed as people's lifestyles changed and as
they adapted to the climate. It looks at gardens in public
places, wineries and restaurants, as well as plantings in
private gardens. The book acknowledges the role of women in
shaping gardens, as well as ways in which people in the
Barossa have shared their gardens by entering produce in
local shows, decorating Vintage Festival floats and joining
Australia's Open Garden Scheme. “Barossa Gardens - A
History” is available from Imprints, The Art Gallery of
South Australia, Angus & Robertson and outlets in the
Barossa, including wineries.
