Tourism Australia has launched its new look travel
website – australia.com – a gateway to over 60 international
websites – targeting web savvy travellers who are planning
their travel online. The website has undergone a major
revamp using the latest technology and connects consumers
directly to approximately 23,000 tourism products across
Australia.

Australia's oldest family owned wine company, Yalumba, has been
recognised by the US Environmental Protection Agency with a
2007 Climate Protection Award. This annual award recognises
companies and individuals from around the world who have
demonstrated "exceptional leadership, outstanding
innovation, personal dedication, and technical achievements
in protecting the environment". Barossa-based Yalumba
is the first wine company in the world to receive this award.

Adelaide Zoo will start work in July on a new state-of-the-art
Environmental Education Centre, which will replace the
current Zoo Education Centre built in the 1960s. It is
scheduled to open in April 2008. The new $2.5 million centre
– to be built with $800,000 funding from the State
Government – will provide a more “hands on” approach to
learning for the 50,000 South Australian students who access
the facility each year.

The outgoing head of the South Australian Tourism Commission, Bill
Spurr, has been appointed to the board of one of South
Australia’s leading tourism operators, SeaLink Travel Group.
Mr Spurr, will take up the board position when he leaves the
SATC at the end of June. Mr Spurr took up another new
position last month, as the Adelaide Festival Centre's
newest Trustee. He is also Chair of Education Adelaide, a
member of the Australian Standing Committee on Tourism,
member of the Sustainable Tourism Cooperative Research
Centre Board, board member of the Adelaide Entertainment
Centre and Chair of the World Police and Fire Games.

British chef, restaurateur, author, and TV presenter Rick Stein has
confirmed that he will be attending Tasting Australia 2007.
He will be joining international food professionals
including Madhur Jaffrey, Rachel Allen, Antonio Carluccio,
Dun Gifford and Richard Fox at the James Squire Food, Beer &
Wine Writers' Festival, a key event in the Tasting Australia
calendar, and a must for lovers of all things gastronomic.

The Adelaide Festival Centre’s “Something on Saturday” celebrates
30 years in 2007. This year's program runs every Saturday
until 25 August. Since 1977 “Something on Saturday” has
grown to become a South Australian icon, with thousands of
children aged three to 10 attending the performances and
participating in the workshops – many experiencing the
theatre for the first time through the program.

A $375,000 State Government regional infrastructure grant will help
develop a leading nature-based tourism lodge on Kangaroo
Island. The grant will cover up to half the electricity
infrastructure costs for Baillie Lodge’s $12 million Southern
Ocean Lodge at Hanson Bay. Southern Ocean Lodge, to open
in March 2008, will include 21 accommodation suites and a
spa retreat for visitors looking for a world-class
nature-based tourism experience.

Leading UK economist, financial writer and author Philippe Legrain will
join the line-up of speakers for the 2007 Adelaide
Festival of Ideas, to be held 5-8 July. The theme for
this year’s festival is “Which way to the future?” More than

environment, religion, human rights and journalism will come
together at the event to discuss major topics such as global
warming, migration and terrorism.

The South Australian Maritime Museum is offering free entry on
Sunday 17 June 2007, thanks to Flinders Ports. Visitors to
the museum, at 126 Lipson Street, Port Adelaide, will be
able to take the wheel and sail the high seas on the ketch
permanently moored inside the museum, climb to the top of
the lighthouse for an amazing view of the coast, lie in a
cabin bunk and listen to what is was like to migrate to
South Australia in 1840 and go surfing on the museum’s
surfboard simulator.
