Tourism Benefits from State Budget
The tourism industry has benefited from a commitment to
partnerships and future growth in the 2007-08 South Australian
Budget, announced by Treasurer Kevin Foley in June.
The budget reflects a wide range of strategic investments and
initiatives to support the tourism industry, which in turn will
encourage employment and economic growth across the State.
In partnership with industry, the South Australian Government is
committed to building on the State’s strengths to increase our
appeal to key markets, both locally and internationally. The shared
objective is to attract more visitors to enjoy South Australia, stay
longer and spend more.
The Budget provides for new investments in domestic and international
tourism marketing, as well as strong support for events and
festivals. In addition, ongoing funding has been committed for
tourism infrastructure and produce development in the key areas of
food, wine and nature.
2007-08 budget highlights include:
· $21.1million committed to support domestic marketing, including
additional $750,000 for a new domestic marketing campaign targeting
NSW, Victoria and south-east Queensland.
· $7.78 million to support international marketing, including $750,000
to continue the television marketing campaign in New Zealand and the
successful cooperative marketing campaigns with Singapore Airlines
in key international markets.
· $100,000 invested to support the 75th anniversary of the Credit Union
Christmas Pageant.
· Support to major sporting, cultural and arts events, including
WOMADelaide and mass participation events such as the Australasian
Masters Games and World Amateur Golf Team Championships.
· Continued support of the Tour Down Under, which celebrates its 10th
anniversary in January, 2008.
· $2million to support tourism infrastructure projects.
· Continued support of the State’s consumer brand South Australia. A
brilliant blend to ensure it is adopted by other State Government
departments and South Australian business.
