Local Celebrities "sell" SA's Regions

A number of local celebrities have been recruited to promote their favourite regional holiday destination in South Australia as part of the State Government’s new intrastate marketing campaign.

Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith says 12 celebrities will become advocates for South Australia’s tourism regions during the year-long campaign of television advertisements.

“Holidays are more than just collecting photographs or sending the odd postcard. People travel to enrich their lives and further their experiences.

“These experiences come from meeting people, visiting new places, participating in activities and creating memories, then retelling those stories time and time again.

“This new campaign, in partnership with Channel 9, involves well-known Channel 9 identities bringing their own holiday experiences to life for the viewer.

“The beauty of these ads is that they aren’t staged. The storyteller has a true affiliation for the region and is sharing their real life memories.

“The advertisements have also been designed to remind South Australians of the fabulous experiences we have right here in our own State, bringing our backyard to life.

“We have scheduled one new advertisement for each region every month over the next year. In July, we saw Keith Conlon sharing his love for the Flinders Ranges & Outback and now we are hearing about Michael Keelan’s favourite spots on the Limestone Coast,” Dr Lomax-Smith says.

As an added bonus, the Department for Environment and Heritage has also agreed to run three ads with the same look and feel throughout the year. These three ads will focus on National Parks and the experiences of camping, walking and family.

Dr Lomax-Smith says international tourist numbers to South Australia are growing and this campaign will highlight to South Australians what the rest of the world is coming to realise.

“South Australia offer great holiday experiences that can be found nowhere else and we want more locals to discover the gems in their own backyard,” Dr Lomax-Smith says.

The following Channel 9 celebrities have been matched with the following regions:
