SA'S MURRAY RIVER IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS
Now is the perfect time to take a holiday along the South
Australian stretch of the Murray River – where water levels are just
right for houseboating and watersports.
That’s the message from tourism operators in the region, who are working
together to let holidaymakers know that the South Australian section
of the Murray River is very much open for business.
Houseboat Hirers Association CEO Peter Tucker says that despite reports
of low water flows into the River Murray, the houseboat industry is
in full swing and holidaymakers can still travel the full length of
the river in South Australia.
"The great news for Australian families is that - unlike many years
- a number of houseboats are still available, a very affordable
rates, from now and up to the Christmas holidays and right through
to Easter," Mr Tucker says.
"Booking a houseboat holiday around this time is traditionally
almost impossible, but this year a range of options are still
available, so we're urging families to take this wonderful
opportunity to get away from the stresses of everyday city life and
escape to the peace and tranquillity of the river, all you need is a
driver's licence - and a few days to unwind."
Proud Australia Group of Companies CEO Ben Mead says the Murray River’s
lock system has ensured that there is plenty of water in the lower
stretches of the Murray River.
“With the weather warming up and daylight savings having commenced there
is no better time to take a holiday on the Murray River,” he says.
“In particular December and January are wonderful months to enjoy water
sports and other recreational pursuits on and around the river with
warm days and balmy nights.
“It is also a great time to enjoy the wonderful bird and animal life
that is frequently seen in the air and by the rivers edge.
“On-board the Murray Expedition our full time ecologist will educate you
about the flora and fauna of the region.
“A highlight of our 5 night cruising itinerary is our nocturnal tour
where guests explore the nocturnal habitat of the Southern Hairy
Nosed Wombat - a highlight for many passengers.”
