THE LOCAVORE
The Locavore, a new wine and tapas bar with an interesting philosophy in food collection, has recently been set up in the Adelaide Hills town of Stirling by local lads Christopher March and Nathan Crudden. ‘Locavore’ is a word to describe the practice of eating a diet consisting of food harvested only from within a local area – most commonly within a 100 mile (160-kilometre) radius of home. Both Christopher and Nathan have been involved in the hospitality industry most of their working lives, and have been owner-operators of one of Adelaide’s most successful function co-ordination businesses, Are You Being Served, for the past 14 years. In keeping with the principles of the 100-Mile Diet, The Locavore is dedicated to sourcing food and wines from places as close to the restaurant as possible (less than 160 kilometres away, in fact). Stirling was chosen as the perfect home town for The Locavore due to its location as the gateway to the bountiful Adelaide Hills and surrounding areas including the fertile Adelaide Plains, the wine regions of the Barossa and McLaren Vale, the wheat belt to the east and the gulf to the west. The latest Locavore menu features a range of tapas and light meals, including delicious desserts and a great South Australian wine list with many sold by the glass. The Locavore is located at 49 Mount Barker Rd, Stirling and is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to late.
