The South Australian Visitor and Travel Centre (SAV&TC) opened a Tours Desk at the newly completed Keswick Passenger Terminal on Monday 21 January. The friendly staff from the SAV&TC at the Adelaide Airport will work at the desk for all Ghan and Indian Pacific arrivals, six times per week, for a trial period of three months, with a view to extending this service based on demand. Tourism Australia won Best Tourist Board at the Travel Weekly Globe Awards in the United Kingdom (UK) in January. A new food and wine promotional campaign for the Clare Valley which is set to encourage visitors to explore the region and graze on local produce, will kick off at the end of this month. ‘Progressive Picnic’ is about encouraging visitors to graze the region, try a local wine or sample Clare Valley’s regional produce with the intent of filling up their picnic basket to take home. Local businesses, wineries, restaurants and bed and breakfast accommodation providers will be offering visitors a food and beverage package at their venue, which may be a coffee and a piece of cake, a lunch deal or a local wine and cheese platter. Paul Grabowsky has been announced as the Artistic Director of the 2010 Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts. The distinguished pianist, composer and conductor was selected from an outstanding field of candidates to direct the Festival in its 50th anniversary year in 2010. He is known for his work as founding director of the Australian Art Orchestra, which was established in 1994 and has appeared in Adelaide on many occasions. His music has been performed throughout the world, including New York, London and Berlin as well as on the homefront - with his compositions featured in the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Works by two South Australian filmmakers - Sarah Crowest and William Allert - have been selected in an elite group of 16 finalists for Sony Tropfest 2008, the world's largest short film festival. Now in its 16th year, Sony Tropfest 2008 provides the ultimate exhibition opportunity for filmmakers. The 16 finalists will present their short films to an audience of more than 150,000 people. The Festival itself is presented live at Sydney's Domain on Sunday 17 February - with the action screened nationally via simultaneous satellite into every capital city and eight regional centres around the country.
