ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL
6-15 June 2008
Enjoy nights of music, satire, comedy, and performance art, as well as dancing the night away at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. This popular event offers the best local, national and international artists in the cabaret genre, with classic and contemporary cabaret performances. See the Adelaide Festival Centre transformed into different cabaret venues - plus bars, cafes, restaurants, clubs and comfy nooks in which to chat and enjoy a drink. Each evening the late night action is at the Kool Kat Festival Club, where the drinks flow, the music is engaging, the dance floor is packed and many an artist can be glimpsed among the crowd.

RIVERLAND BALOON FIESTA
7-9 June 2008
Enjoy hot air balloon rides and demonstrations in Renmark at this spectacular event offering a weekend of activity for families and the community. See how air balloons are packed for transport, unfurled and repacked, and how the burner functions. Ballooning pilots will also be available to answer questions and discuss all aspects of ballooning. The hot air balloons will be launched from Oval 2, the local Renmark hockey field, twice a day. Commercial flights will also be available to the courageous and those who wish to take in some spectacular views of the Murray River.

LOXTON HISTORICAL VILLAGE ALIVE DAY

Rush to the Adelaide Showgrounds for a clearance sale of RM Williams boots, men's and women's clothing and accessories. More than 70 years ago, Reginald Murray Williams AO, CMG began to make bush saddlery and boots while camped in South Australia's remote Gammon Ranges. Here, R.M. first met "Dollar Mick" Smith, an itinerant saddler, and after much trial and error, fashioned his first pair of stockman's riding boots. PICHI RICHI MARATHON
29 June 2008
The Pichi Richi Marathon participants will traverse 42.2 kilometres through the picturesque Pichi Richi Pass between Port Augusta and Quorn in the Flinders Ranges. Starting at Port Augusta West, the marathon will run from the sea through the stunning beauty of the Flinders Ranges to Quorn. The event also has later starts for half marathon and 10.5 kilometre runners and walkers. The event also boasts the running of the Pichi Richi Steam Train that runs on the same day. Entertainment will be on offer at the finish line, including bouncy rides and Pichi Richi Camel rides for the children, plus a trophy ceremony and a random prize draw.

HILLS BAND FESTIVAL
29 June 2008
The Hills Band Festival will bring together nine community and school bands for one big concert at Lobethal Centennial Hall. Enjoy the sounds of jazz, swing, pop and classical music performed by local school bands, concert bands and brass bands. The event will feature Unity College, The Adelaide Hills Concert Band, Hahndorf Town Band, Mount Barker District Concert Band, Cornerstone College, Murray Bridge Concert Band, Trinity College, Tea Tree Gully Concert Band, Minor Magic and St Johns Grammar School.

WHALE WATCHING SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENS

Each year between June and October, giant Southern Right Whales return to the waters of Victor Harbor's Encounter Bay. After an extensive redevelopment, the South Australian Whale Centre will reopen on 1 June, promising to deliver a quality facility featuring exciting new displays with interactive exhibits on creatures of the deep including whales, sharks, dolphins and endangered local species. The 2008 Whaletime Playtime Festival will create an exciting atmosphere for children aged between three and 10 years of age, coinciding with the reopening of the South Australian Whale Centre. WAIKERIE AND DISTRICTS MACHINERY PRESERVATION SOCIETY INCORPORATED RUNNING DAYS 2008

The Waikerie and Districts Machinery Preservation Society Incorporated Running Day is an event held at the local museum situated on Rowe Street, next to the Waikerie Ferry and Pumping Station. The museum features displays of vintage engines - some with attachments, machinery and tractors along with various other displays available for viewing. PORT BROUGHTON SAILING AND BOAT CLUB FAMILY FUN WINTER FISHING COMPETITION 2008

Come to Port Broughton for a fun day of fishing for jetty, shore and boat angling. RIVERLAND PADDLING MARATHON
7-9 June 2008
The Riverland Paddling Marathon incorporates the SA Murray 200, the SA Murray 100, the SA Murray Relay Challenge and the inaugural 10-kilometre Waikerie Mini Marathon. The event is organised by The Marathon Canoe Club of South Australia. The Relay Challenge is available for people who wish to paddle shorter distances, but paddle as a team for the full 200-kilometre course. This is a great event for schools, clubs or community youth groups that provides both individual challenge and a chance to undertake teamwork.

ROTARY FARM SHED MARKETS

The Rotary Farm Shed Markets are held regularly on the last Saturday of the month in the grounds of The Farm Shed Museum and Tourism Centre in Kadina. A TRIBUTE TO IRIS FRAME

"A Tribute to Iris Frame" is a retrospective exhibition curated to commemorate the anniversary of this South East artist's death in 2003. During her artistic life, Mrs Iris Frame, as she was most commonly referred to and as she signed her work, was often maligned and even ridiculed as eccentric and paranoid, but her techniques, in their own interpretive way, show surprising sophistication in colour, composition and subtle inherent abstractions.

LAND, SAND AND GLASS EXHIBITION AT PALATE TO PALETTE

ARNE AREYE - ALL THE PLANTS AND NGARLURGU - ALL OF US

The Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute will showcase two exhibitions in May, June and July.  Both exhibitions, ‘Arne areye – All the Plants’ and ‘Ngarlurgu – All of Us’, celebrate the connection Aboriginal people have with their respective homelands, the inspiration that the landscape provides and the respect they have for their country. ‘Arne areye – All the Plants’ is a joyful exhibition celebrating the Arrernte plant world of Central Australia. ‘Ngarlurgu – All of Us’ celebrates the unique diversities and the connections they have with the landscapes surrounding Ceduna on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula. Both exhibitions give a true sense of the respect shared between the artists and their country.
